Applies to: VisualSVN Server 1.0, 1.1, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.0, 2.1, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 3.0

Symptoms

You may receive the following error message in a web browser when connecting to an outdated and unsupported version of VisualSVN Server:

Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and other Chromium-based browsers

The connection for this site is not secure
svn.example.com uses an unsupported protocol.
ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH

Mozilla Firefox

Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to svn.example.com. Peer using unsupported version of security protocol.
Error code: SSL_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED_VERSION

Cause

Due to TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 deprecation, modern browsers can only connect to servers that support TLS 1.2 or higher. VisualSVN Server supports TLS 1.2 beginning with version 3.2.0. Versions older than 3.2.0 do not support TLS 1.2.

Resolution

You should upgrade the VisualSVN Server installation to a newer version to solve this issue.

Up-to-date versions of VisualSVN Server support TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3. Upgrading the server to the current version will resolve the issue and web browsers will connect without errors.
