VisualSVN 8.4 Released

We are happy to announce the release of VisualSVN 8.4 for Visual Studio 2022. VisualSVN 8.4 brings a number of fixes as well as important usability improvements, in particular:

  • A new 'Open in Web Interface' command
  • A dedicated infobar for files with unresolved conflicts
  • A set of shaped status icons

More details on the above-mentioned improvements are provided below. For the complete list of changes, see the VisualSVN 8.4.0 changelog.

You can download the latest VisualSVN 8.4 build from the official download page. Please note that VisualSVN 8.4 supports Visual Studio 2022 only. If you are using an older version of Visual Studio, please see the Maintenance updates for VisualSVN 7.x and older section below.

Open in Web Interface command

A new command called Open in Web Interface is now available in the main menu and in the context menu for all versioned items. This command is a quick way to navigate to the corresponding item in the repository's Web Interface. For this new command to work, webviewer properties need to be configured in the repository.

Infobar for conflicts

When you open a file that has unresolved conflicts, the file will have a special infobar displayed at its top. This is a small but important improvement in terms of usability, which makes it easier to notice an existing conflict (and resolve it before making further changes to the conflicted file).

Shaped icons

VisualSVN 8.4 adds a new optional set of status icons - Shaped icons. Shaped status icons work the same way as the usual Traffic lights status icons, but can be distinguished not only by their color but also by their shape. You can enable Shaped status icons in the VisualSVN Options from the main menu.

Maintenance updates for VisualSVN 7.x and older

For users of Visual Studio 2019 and older, new maintenance builds of the VisualSVN plug-in are now available, which bring fixes and the latest component updates, but do not include the above-mentioned new features. Please choose an appropriate download depending on your Visual Studio version:

For the full list of changes in these maintenance builds, see their corresponding changelog entries: VisualSVN 7.5, VisualSVN 6.9 and VisualSVN 5.8.

Dropped support for Visual Studio 2005 and 2008

Please note that VisualSVN 5.8 no longer supports Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008, for which Microsoft's extended period of support ended on April 12, 2016 and April 10, 2018 respectively. If you are still using these versions of Visual Studio, please consider upgrading to a more recent version of Visual Studio before updating the VisualSVN plug-in to the latest release.

The oldest version of Visual Studio supported by VisualSVN 5.8 is now Visual Studio 2010.

Upgrading existing licenses to VisualSVN 8.4

All VisualSVN 8.x licenses are eligible for a free upgrade to VisualSVN 8.4. All VisualSVN licenses issued on or after June 17th, 2021 are eligible for a free upgrade to VisualSVN 8.4, too.

The upgrade to VisualSVN 8.4 is also free if you use VisualSVN under the Community license.

Note that updating to VisualSVN 7.5, 6.9 and 5.8 with a valid VisualSVN 7.x, 6.x or 5.x license is also free and does not require a license upgrade.

If you don't qualify for a free upgrade, you can purchase an upgrade to VisualSVN 8.4 using the online purchase form.
